Stroke Symptom Treatment

Now that we know a bit more about what’s wrong, which of the following options best describes the type of symptoms you have?

What type of strokes can occur?

A stroke happens either when the blood supply to part of your brain is cut off, a ischaemic stroke, or when you experience internal bleeding, a haemorrhagic stroke.

As Blood carries essential nutrients and oxygen to your brain, any interruption can cause problems and the damage caused will have different effects, including painful, tight muscles and limited movement in the upper and lower limbs.

Common post stroke issues

  • General movement and mobility problems

  • Weakness in muscles or paralysis

  • Post-stroke fatigue which limits exercise

What symptoms are caused by a stroke?

Ischaemic strokes are likely to happen when the flow of blood and oxygen to the brain is blocked by a blood clot. These clots usually form in areas where the arteries are narrowed or blocked by fatty deposits (plaques)

Haemorrhagic strokes on the other hand are often caused by very high blood pressure, which will, over time, weaken arteries in the brain so the risk of them splitting or rupturing increases.
